Aussie ships sunk.
I was perusing an article about Aussie ships sunk in the second world war off NSW, a woman working at our RSL said her father was on a ship sunk off Muraya which is one of the nearest beaches for us, no one knew about it until they came ashore. But what caught my eye in the article was the ship the Robert J Walker, which according to the article was the only ship sunk by a German U Boat in the Pacific during the war.
You learn something new every day.

Re: Aussie ships sunk.
U862 when Germany surrendered she put into Singapore and became the Japanese I-502
This may be of interest Des, found it on Wiki.
The German crew of U-862 suffered no casualties, and some returned to Germany several years after the war. Others who were interned at Kinmel Camp, Bodelwyddan, North Wales, remained in Wales and settled in the neighbouring communities of Rhyl, Rhuddlan and Prestatyn, due to the risks of returning to the Soviet occupied areas of Germany after the war. Two of the crew are buried at the new cemetery at Rhuddlan, North Wales, on nearby plots.

Re: Aussie ships sunk.
In Geraldton WA there is a very moving memorial to one Oz ship lost in WW2.
A full list of names of all on board.
Aery moving statue of a lady looking out to sea in the hope of seeing the ship with her husband on coming into port.
Happy daze John in Oz.
