MV Topaz Tangaroa
vessel arrived in Birkenhead to be converted into subsea cable protection vessel.
Vessel purchased by UK gov for £70m, to be operated by RFA.

They're looking into buying a second one too.

Having just looked at some photos of her It appears that ships are starting to look less like ships and this one looks as if she has a better view of where she has beeb than where she is going

Excuse my ignorance but what does a sub sea cable protection vessel do apart from what its description says.?
How and by what means do they protect a telephone cable , is it by physical or electronic defence procedures. I would like to know as was on a rig once where we destroyed such by dropping a 22 ton rig anchor on such. Would this have been prevented if such a vessel had been in the area,? If so I am sure the people of Fremantle would like one as well. Better late than never. JS
