First Shipment

Due to arrive in the UK on the 22nd of August is an LNG shipment from Australia.
Apparently Australia is searching for other markets as sales to China are in decline.
The shipment is not necessary for the UK, but will be processed here shipping to Europe.

The principal customer for Australian LNG has always been Japan, particularly once the Northwest Shelf project started production in the late 80s.
So much so there were fleets of ships running to/from Australia/Japan - with all the big players involved but particularly Shell (with Australian flagged and crewed ships) - to supply LNG to Japanese power stations and for domestic use.
Japan is looking elsewhere for energy, the ships are now coming to the end of their lives and the gas fields nearing the end of their usefulness, so things are slowly winding down.

Here in Oz we are exporting record amounts of gas if the figures put out by gov are correct.
According to our news the gas is for use in UK to suppliment gas there during winter months.

Green Hydrogen plants being developed to supply to a number of countries, eventually will be used in steel making.
To date only in experimental stages.

But cola for steel making and thermal is still one of the biggest exports.

I can remember a while back, the US offered to send gas to the UK by sea, but nothing came of it. Maybe gov.uk are regretting it now?

Ineos has been importing shale gas from the states, to Grangemouth refinery for some years now.
It is ironic also that LPG has been exported to the USA from Mossmorran for years.
