    Default George Barnett

    Hi,

Sorry if this is a repeat but I cannot find the first one I posted.

I'm trying to find any info on my great grandfather.

His name is George Barnett born 1867.

Family knowledge says he was in the merchant navy for 11 years, research I have done, his marriage certificate in 1890 says he is a mariner. I cannot find him on the 1891 census but I have found his wife, so I have presumed him to still be a mariner and away. on the 1911 census he his wife and 3 children are living in Wales and he is a coal miner. I have estimated that his years of service would be approx mid 1880's to mid 1890's On his marriage certificate his father is also a George Barnett, Coastguard and deceased.

I would be very grateful for any help anyone can pass my way.

    Thank you

    Linda

    Hello Linda
I cannot see any other Thread of this kind, so possibly you may have not posted correctly first time??
Anyway i have a G Barnett but was Born 1865 in Sunderland ??
May be him ?? Many errors made those days in Entries!
But will keep looking in case!

Ship this person was on in 1883 was the Venus. Rank OS.
He then went on to join another Ship Minerva around that time as well so ???

Its a possibility that is very close!

    Cheers

Hi, thanks for reply. I did see this George Barnett and done some research. If my memory serves me correctly one of the ships was in Exeter. My George Barnett married a girl from Kenton not far from Exeter.

My George Barnett according to family and the 1901, 1911 and 1921 is from Kent

    Regards
    Linda

Hi Marian, thank you for looking.
In answer to your question, it may-do.
George Barnett born 1867 is a brick wall in my family. As I said above my father and family have said he was a mariner and thought it was in the merchant navy working the south coast of England and on his marriage certificate occupation is mariner.
On the marriage certificate his father was named as George Barnett, occupation was coastguard and deceased.
One of my fathers cousins thought the George Barnett 1867 fathers name was William!
My George Barnett died 1933 in Bedwas South Wales. He had lived in South Wales as a coal miner mid 1890s I presume as he was a mariner in 1890 and a coal miner in 1901 census.
I have searched the coastguard records for the 1800s for George Barnett senior but have not found a George or William that fits

My great grandfather married Alice Bright from Kenton Devon in 1890. They had 9 children that I have found. George finished being a mariner sometime during the 1890s.
George was a mariner on his wedding certificate in 1890 and on the 1901 census he is a coal miner in South Wales.
Thank you so much for even looking, I have been looking for him for over 30 years and I know a lot about him from 1901 but nothing before that.
I have seen the George Barnett 1867 born to George and Lucy in Brasted Kent but I could not find anything after him baptism. I will research for him again, especially as he is a mariner.
    Thank you
    Linda
