I look forward to hearing from anyone on the subject and all assistance will be acknowledged..
My Father, Stanley Watson Jones, was Chief Officer aboard the MV Seistan at the time of the explosion in Bahrain in 1958. My mother and brother who were both onboard at the time has copies of the book and have visited Bahrain and the site of the wreck.

Sadly, my father passed away in 1992 from cancer. RIP

Would love to hear from anyone who has a connection with the ship and or its disaster.

    Regards,

    Jonathan Jones

My father was Chief Officer on board at the time of the disaster, and my mother and brother both survived the explosion thanks to my fathers bravery and thanks to God.... Would love to hear from you. Are you on Facebook? My mother and brother have both visited the wreck site of the ship and laid a wreath in memory of those who lost their lives. They also visited the cemetery in Bahrain! I have photos if you at all interested.

My mother and brother have copies of the book. Makes for good reading, if not emotional for me, reading accounts of the disaster... as my father was Chief Officer onboard at the time of the explosion.

    Hi there.
Were the two survivors you took to the wreck site, Peter & Valerie Jones. If so they were my brother and mother. I am Jonathan Jones and would be very interested in hearing from you. Do you know Kevin Patience, Diver?
    Regards,

Hello Jonathan.I bought and reviewed a book by Kevin Patience on this site,'Shipwrecks & Salvage on the East African Coast'.
Looking at kuzama's biography profile on this site I am very sure he is Kevin Patience.

Click on his name and you can send him a Private Message (PM) or an e-mail.

    SEISTAN TRAGEDY[/QUOTE]

Gulliver just re read (read it some years ago) the report on the tragedy, the bravery of our fellow men going about their normal jobs never fails to amaze me the photos attached in the report just show the enormity of the explosion. It is always wiseto comment with hindsight but one would have thought that lessons learnt in WWII about cargoes such as explosives, detonators and self combusting materials would have been carried in seperate holds, this was our practice in PSNC, but I know a lot of companies where Chief Officers advice was ignored by shore staff planners for the expediency of loading or discharging schedules.

Again I salute those brave men of whatever rank who fought that fire to save the ship and their shipmates knowing full well what could happen at any moment, may they rest in peace knowing that they did more than could be expected of them.
