Default Scottish dredger that helped build the Panama canal

Interesting article about the dredger Corozal, that was used in the construction of the Panama canal.

#1. Funny thing John is when anyone mentions dredger most immediately think of dredging channels and alongside berths to enable ships to get alongside. Thats the way I thought until the couple of weeks I worked for Westmister Dredging just prior to emigrating in 1991. I did a bottom sampling survey for them Off Dover and certain areas of the Southern North Sea . this was prior to them hopefully being able to harvest the sea bed for certain types of sand etc. One could only call it a commercial project. I hope the many samples we took proved to be what they wanted . The fishermen at the time were mostly foreign at the time so wasnt too bothered about upsetting them. Cheers JS

This photo was taken of dredging on the Clyde near the Kingston bridge around 1980, it is not to dissimilar to the one used on the panama canal although a bit smaller. I think the building in the background with the green roof is the 'Glasgow Pool' where we went for our medicals 70s and 80s, but I may be wrong, it was around that area though. I still remember the doctor there who smoked like a chimney during the medical and always had a full ashtray on his desk.

We had Port Phillip b ay dredged some years ago.
A group of lunatics, no others could think as they did, said that by doing so the bay would fill with extra water and flood Melbourne!!

The home for mentally deficients was closed some time before they made the statement.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
