Re: Loading containers
I sometimes look at the container ships and the crew accommodation.
There appears to be many cabins judging by the number of windows to be seen.
But sadly for most crew all they will see looking out is container

Re: Loading containers
When I was working on the Ferry South Steyne in Sydney, I got a chance to go up to the cabin of one of those cranes, took a bit of puff as I was seventy at the time, but the views were marvellous, didn't fancy the jon but I was a little to old.

Re: Loading containers
Hi John.
A LOT of aches and pains, I cut our eight foot hedge yesterday plenty of aches today climbing up and down a ladder, and to make it worse my arms look like I have the pox, forgot to put a long sleeve shirt on, arms covered in small bruises. Our first warm day of summer today, like you, after a thunderstorm last night.

Re: Loading containers
According to the maritime press, MSC are now the biggest container outfit in the world both by number of ships and also the number of slots it offers.

Re: Loading containers
That was quite mesmerising! I missed the container revolution, after my time at sea. (Rather thankfully, I think with hindsight.)
I left the MN for a brief period & joined the Fire Brigade (Pre "Service" days.)......100ft up on a turntable ladder did not faze me....although as one looked back, over the shoulder down the ladder and saw it snaking in the wind....you did tend to stop admiring the view! These days...I get vertigo up a stepladder!
Thanks for posting that very interesting video.Cheers!
