hi cappy #18
no blaming your better half for anything is insensitive,( and costly,) but reminding them that its a pity ( We ) never stayed in spain is just a cursory reminder of the good weather that we are missing.

This one might be of interest to you John. From my collection of books. J. Murray Lindsay BY THE WIND, starting with sailing ships but having to change to steam as sail was vanishing. His second book SAILOR IN STEAM adjusting to the change.

#23. Thanks John at first glance think will let Larry and Shep break it down to less syllables , 6 lines should do it. Nothing gets past them , I’m still trying to remember my new name. JS

#24.. Thanks Bill very interesting. There was an engineer in SML who sailed around the Horn in a square rigged ship , forget his name but was his claim to fame, think he was South African , but maybe wrong. He died well before his time. Cheers JS

Re: Doesn’t anyone know.
A few years back we had a dozen or so tall shops here in Melbourne for a festival.
I would assume they must have had skippers with some form of accreditation to sail.
But two were French so maybe they were just getting practice for a chanel crossing.
Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.
