    Default Are these ship's numbers?

    Hi
I had wonderful help here with the name of the ship Bereby and now I'm asking for more assistance please. I've attached a scan of part of a card I downloaded from Find My Past which is from the Register of Merchant Seamen held at the NA. It has been scanned sideways. Am I correct in thinking that the numbers refer to ships and dates that the seaman previously served on? If so I have found the names of the ships except for the first two. Could anyone help with those ship's names please?

Also why doesn't it have his first ship the Bereby which he signed on to around November 1921?

    Many thanks

That first Number is also the Megantic looks like ! Cheers

    Ship's Name Megantic Official Number 127981 Dates of Voyage 24 September 1921 - 16 October 1921.

So looks like the person in question may have been on this in 1921 as well, therefore then earlier on the Bereby . in 1921. ??

Thank you Doc & Lewis for your great replies. I have attached the full scan for George Henry Meaden DOB 19 Jun 1905. He was on the TS Exmouth before the Bereby with his brother William Leonard Meaden DOB 1 Aug 1906 who joined the RN.

I have also attached a document similar to the first one and his document from the TS Exmouth. Are the dates on the first scan I posted yesterday the dates when George joined the ship or left the ship?

Many thanks for all the info on the ships. I had missed the Franconia altogether and had the Ben Lomond as ship number 145913.
I was told that when George was in New York he was playing a game of football, fell awkwardly and broke his leg in three places which meant the end of his merchant navy career. This would have been c1927-28.

    Many thanks again.

So i see that in May 1927 he was also on another Ship the Hilderbrand 131329 Built 1911 of Booth SS Company. Broken Up Newport 1934 . So that must have been his last Ship

The Doc i see in fact is his initial CR1 and CR2 of course because of the Year!

I note as well that the one Doc has the N.R.5 (1933) there which i think is referring to his Naval Reserve . ?? But nor certain, dont now what else it could be , possibly others here may!

    For interest
    William Leonard Meaden
    Naval Rating
    J105690
Born Hampstead 1906 Strange no record of him on the Exmouth though????

Thank you Doc Vernon for the page on William Meaden. It's all adding to the family story. I have enough now to put something together on George's naval career.

    Many thanks

Re. ship second on your list, official number 140596. This was the SS Regina (White Star Dominion Line), re-named SS Westernland (Red Star Line, Hamburg) in 1930. A transatlantic ocean liner 1917-1947. I can't read the first number on your list.

    Hi Kathryn
Than k you for your input, however that site is one we use very often on here, as most of the Crew lists now are in Canada with the Maritime Section of the University Newfoundland!
    Many Thanks
