    Default Bowaters

The fleet is fully covered in Ships in Focus Record 5 including pre was history and ships, ships lost in the war and post war recovery . Excellent photos including their first two ships Corner Brook and Humber Arm.
When I was at the training college in 1958 a list went on the board saying Bowaters wanted 12 cadets or so at once.
Those who wanted to join left virtually at once without waiting for exams. Visitors back to the ship said cadets were paid overtime. Unheard of in those days.
It soon became uneconomical to run under British Flag and cheaper to charter so last ship left in 1977. Bowaters had also borrowed heavily to build the ships. At some stage Clan Line took over the management and running of the ships.
