A Maersk container ships captain has been arrested in Australia after claims that his ship dragged it's anchor and damaged a sub sea communication cable linking Australia and Singapore.

The same thing happened to me John , I was on a rig as towmaster and after stopping on passage from the Bass strait to the NW shelf at Fremantle for 3 days for repairs , and picking up the anchors , the tow line parted , and the OIM on his own authority rushed out on deck and dropped one of the rigs anchors. If he had tried to do it on purpose he would have failed but it damaged the telephone cable to Singapore . In the ensuing claims I wasn’t even approached and he took full authority and blame for his actions . It was an American oim and an American rig
And I congratulate him for standing up and admitting to the results of his actions many would not have done .JS
