A new drug which can reduce the risk of hospitalisation and death from COVID by 79%
has been approved for use in the UK for people aged 12 and up.

The drug was developed by London-based GlaxoSmithKline in conjunction with
Vir Biotechnology in California - and the makers say preclinical data shows the drug
"retains activity against key mutations of the new Omicron variant".

The UK has ordered around 100,000 doses of sotrovimab.

ADDED: EU health chiefs say Omicron will make up half of cases 'within next few months'

While much still needs to be confirmed about Omicron, including whether or not it causes more-serious illness, the ECDC says it will make up half of all Europe's cases 'within the next few months' as it out-competes the Delta variant.

After those that claimed it was just be like flue and over in weeks, near two years ago.

Our best bet are the experts.

Scientists caution that the data-set is not yet large enough to know for sure whether Omicron is less serious, and that it will take two to three weeks for the picture to become clear.

The millions of deaths since it will all be over in weeks, should at least edge us towards caution.

Rellies in Oz have mailed me with: NSW Health is concerned the state's ninth Omicron COVID-19 infection 'may have been acquired in the community'. The latest case, a student at Regents Park Christian School, has not been overseas and has no links to people who have travelled abroad. Two more students are being investigated over suspicions they could be infected with the variant, health minister Brad Hazzard said on Friday.

NSW has recorded its highest number of new daily COVID-19 cases in six weeks, with the number of confirmed cases of the Omicron variant also climbing to eight.

Please take all care, this is far from over.

Cases here in Oz vary from day to day. Northern Territory had it first death from the virus today.
An Aborigine living in a very remote area.

NSW is doing very well just now with numbers almost stable and low death rates.
'Here in Victoria the numbers are stubornlly high as is the death rate, but hospitalisation is on the decline.

It was announced today, on advice from WHO that booster shots will remain at six months after second dose.
Evidence so far shows there is no benefit in bringing the date of booster forward.
Two doses are enough to give enough protection from the virus. At worst if contracted then it is little worse than a cold according to them.

As per usual some polis are in panic mode again, but as most do not live in the real world one is not surprised by that.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Life is too short to blend in.
