Did anyone fall for George Robeys Spanish Fly. On their many transits through the Canal . For those unaware of what Spanish Fly is or was , it was a sexual stimulant taken by swallowing..Supposedly crushed beetles but more likely crushed cockroaches. That would maybe of caused a medical crisis. JS

George Robey, a man with a cure for anything.
You want to buy something, will have it there in a few minutes, just sent one of the boys to nick it from somewhere.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Think there were many JS, that Guy was a real Shark but seemed to flourish in his Trade!
At young tender ages we were open to all sorts of rorts at that time, and i for one sure as hell was! LOL

But besides that Spanish Fly lark, there were other Guys around as well who sold many odd things, some good and some bad!

A real Eye opener was the Suez in them days , but also a very exciting place i found!
    Cheers

Oh the days of Wine and Roses! LOL

I was on the British Guardian in Port Said around 53 and this young first trip galley boy from Glasgow must have bought some Spanish fly from George
he flaked out and had to be put ashore, think he ended up Ok was sent home DBS, prbably on the way home was holding onto everything.
I have a picture of him but one never knows, some of his relies may look in.

Before Nasser did the deed, we were going through the Canal and saw all the barges tied up ready to be sunk when the British attacked, so obvious. ended up going around the Cape to get home, with the price of our cargo going up every mile.
