From the LR the official no for “Baxtergate” 1930 – 1933 Official No 139044 built 1905 Ex “Rheinfels”The log and crew agreements are held in the MUN http://www.mun.ca/mha/holdings/viewc...cial_No=139044
but ony for the year 1930 under the name of " Baxtergate"
It appears that there must have been 3 ships with the name "Baxtergate" as "Empire Cowdray" appears to have been renamed

Regarding Castleman's post #5
"Covers names ROSENBERG I to RYAN W
Covering dates 1944 Jan 01 - 1945 Dec 31"
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/c...lDetails=False
This links to BT 391 which are Combined Office Merchant Navy Operations, Seamen’s Pouches. These pouches pertain to the Normandy campaign only.
Regarding crew agreements held in Canada, bear in mind that just because a ship is not listed in their online catalogue doesn't necessarily mean the agreements are not there. Many have not yet been indexed.

Hi All
Thanks again for all the replies on this post. Unfortunately I have no further info about Charlie. I am checking about any tattoos he may have had but have had no reply as yet. I am at a major road block at the moment.
If I get any more info I'll share it.
Thanks
Mike

Turnbull & Scott
Hi,
There is a good little potted history of Turnbulls on this site, and the Baxtergates are mentioned, I used to sail with them but a little after your Granddads time.
