    Default Manchester Ship Canal Art......

    These oil paintings were posted in the Manchester Ship Canal Group FaceBook pages by John Appleton
    They are by local artist Ron Oldacre (1928-2005) who enjoyed painting ships and aircraft. Latchford Locks at Warrington is the location.Painted mid 50's to mid 60's..
    Amongst the subjects are Court Line.'s Barrington Court,a Shell Tanker and the ever attentive MSC tugs.

    Brilliant paintings, Graham.

    They show the limited space for ships to pass in the canal.

    I am working on a book on Leith built tugs and dredgers with Ron Neish (ex Henry Robb). The second painting (Shell Tanker) would work well in the book as the two stern tugs are Robb built. I know this as I spent my the first 3 years of my maritime career working on them.
