Re: Southampton port plug in
I honestly don't remember many, if any, fat guys at sea, perhaps the odd one because of a medical condition, in the 50's and 60's, ships were smaller, no stabilisers/flume tanks etc, we bobbed our way across the North Atlantic and North Pacific and on the coast we bobbed along everywhere. Our bodies, legs, arms were always busy counterbalancing the roll and pitch of the vessel. Then we had domino hatchboards, king and queen beams, 10 to 30 derricks, guys, preventers, wires to change, windy hammers, hold cleaning, ladders everywhere, the list is endless, we didn't need a gym, we had mother nature and work, that kept us trim regardless of the amount we ate or drank, then in the 40's and early 50's rationing kept our weight down, and of course all our active cowboys and Indians (red), crawling over bomb sites, all physical rather than chairbound activities.

Re: Southampton port plug in
There were only tow really fat guys I remember, both on the Windsor.
Second chef who worked the first class grill and the chief baker.
Both very rotund but good mates, neither were big eaters but did like their grog.
