Thanks for the update Keith, I mentioned his plight a couple of weeks ago as have been aware of his situation for a couple of years. Let us hope it gives some hope to two crew members who have been isolated on their vessel for two years, as the owners have abandoned them also. The SCA are holding the vessel for unpaid port dues. What on earth makes them think that by holding unfortunate crew members that the owners will turn up trumps and magic the dues. How he kept his sanity for four years does him credit, it must have felt at times that the whole world was against him.

It makes one wonder how the shipping companies can et away with this sort of behavior.
Worse still the countries keeping the ship hostage, do they have no regard for the life of such men?

Den ,could understand that concept in our days but would have though the powers that be now would be governed by stricter rules regarding crew health.

I agree with Denis , you can read about all the Maritime progress in the shipping world , but the status of the seamen themselves are very little changed to what most were used to. The only changes there are less of them. JS

Alas John, there are more of them, IMO records 100,001 vessels of over 100grt employing nearly 2 million seafarers, but they are still invisible. I'm afraid the public in general has no idea what ships do, saying ooh! isn't nice to see all (7) those liners in the Bay, not realising that represents nearly 8000 unemployed seamen, if I hear them I soon put them right

The Mate of the ship who has been stranded off the Egyptian coast for four years was made to sign a document which said he was the legal guardian of the ship.
