Hi Rodney
I went back to South Africa on the old Athlone Castle in 1964 as DBS , but also quite strange that as i was actually gien a Tourist Class Cabin amongst the Passengers and treated just like one as well. Served in T Class Dining Saloon etc, that was really good being a Blood in place of a DBS Crew Member!
To this day i still dont know why or how that happened, but a great trip back i must say!

#50 Rodney ref the guard and his shoelace , on a visit to Buckingham Palace with the wife , after entering the palace there is the great staircase.as people walked up this I gotparted from her and she waited at the top for me to arrive. at the top of the staircase stands a Hussar with drawn sword , my wife was standing next to him thinking it was a statue ,suddenly I saw her do a hop skip and a jump. When I got to her and asked what was the matter she whispered behind a hand at the mouth, that’s a living man. She only realised this when a wisp of the hairs dangling from his helmet must have moved with his breathing . True to form he still appeared to be a statue as we moved further down the corridor. It must take some doing standing there immobile , I would want to scratch my nose or something. There must be a record somewhere maybe the Guiness Book of records what the longest time is. Cheers JS

Think New Zealand was the favourite when I was at sea.
I jumped in Hamburg due to a totally idiotic 2nd Eng, dogged everyone under him and smarmed his way with the CE, had to get off otherwise I might have done something even more silly.
Good thing was I got a free lift in a Brit banana truck right back to a London Underground station.

He...and many other Polish people gave their all...Not least the Polish Fighter Sqd in The Battle of Britain. They alone downed 126 enemy planes in that Battle.
I have a DVD made by SBS (sbs.com.au) No serial # or whatever...apart from the bar-code: 9 322225 087606...

Imagine how Ukraine is suffering......History, as they say, often repeats itself...... Simply for the failure to take heed.

Hi Doc.... Yes, you are right of course. Let's stick to the subject. And I'm as guilty as the next man. But our heads are currently filled with grave forebodings. It's only natural.
