#31 John the man who married my wife and self had been in Changi as a young Army Padre. The Right Reverend Webb he got a mention in that Book the Camp on Blood Island. Think I mentioned this years ago. I have never met a vicar so down to earth as he was. JS
As regards sinking ships many had to face such and other circumstances beyond ones control , thats when one realizes your own mortality in the scheme of things . Mentally it will affect different people different ways , but will certainly clear your mind where you stand in the scheme of things , believe me. JS

Really interesting to see he went to places that would have brought back terrible memories
Aden and Alexandria and probably more as I go through them.
Takes me back to them 1960’s visits he made to our house.
He may have come back from a trip that included places he had been bombed at and seen a lot of blood 25 years ago.
We just seen him as a pain and a drunk.
He would be telling us about them Stuka bombers, men’s splattered bodies everywhere etc. The merchant navy voyage probably brought the memories back of his time in the med.

Hello,
I have a very old army pay book of a great great grandfather. I scanned all the pages into a pdf file and then put it away in a dark, dry safe place. I found that I could then enhance the pdf pictures to make reading it more possible. Worked a treat. Try it on the old discharge books.

In a drawer I have five discharge books. One of my father's, one of my brother's and three of mine. Although a couple are battered and worn they are family history and better left that way.

You are spot on. I have two Discharge Books and they are part of my history.
