Shipping companies operating routes from / through Australasia to Argentina in 1981/82
Good morning everyone,
My name is Michael and I am an amateur novelist looking for information on navigation in the South Pacific in 1981 or early 1982.
So, I wonder if any merchant ships left or went through Australia or New Zealand to go to Argentina at that time, after crossing the South Pacific eastward.
I was told about some of the companies who were involved there and I'd like you to confirm it and add your personal stories if you used that route. Those companies would have been:
Associated Containers Transportation
Australian Venture
Ben Line Steamers Ltd.
Companhia de Navegacao Lloyd Brasileiro.
New Zealand Pacific.
Pacific Australia Direct (vessels having done this run : Paralla, Allunga, and Dilkara - this one operated by Ellerman Lines).
Pan-Ocean Anco Ltd.
P&O (container ships carrying frozen meat going around the Cape Horn and straight to Europe).
CP ships (ship: W.C. Van Horne)
Could you then tell me more about those ships/voyages? Name and type of ship (collier, tanker, container ship, cruise ship, others?), cargo, itinerary, season, dates of departure and arrival at the various stopovers, weather forecast, possible incidents...
Any link, clue, lead, anecdote will be welcome.
Hoping to capture your attention, I wish you the best,
Michael
