    Default Technology 25 years ago

Technology is an ever changing subject and if you dont keep up with it you are left behind . Today it is far in advance of what it was 25 years ago , and I gave up on it nearly 20 years ago, but what is printed here is what was the average for that particular type of vessel which I was master on for a few months.
-M.V. Nordic Explorer... Some may understand the technical details.
    SAFETY
Full compliance with the Maritime regulations and Industry Standards ( E&P Forum/IAGC/SOLAS)
Self Regulating HSE management system by means of company commissioned external audits,
Fully remote controlled and synchronized machinery used to handle streamer , source and deflector systems.
No need for pressurisation of guns on deck. Outboard deflector stowage and deployment . Back up propulsion emergency retrieval power system. Fully protected back deck, working areas with non slip decking and video monitoring .
Purpose designed SOLAS standard workboat FRC/MOB plus craft.
Full coverage foam systems and fire monitoring systems ARPA Radar system.
    NAVIGATON CAPABILITIES
Precise insea positioning Acoustics , compass birds. laser, RGPS on floats.
Processing Realtime 3D binning ,including multi-vessel operation on board post-processing
    Automated Steering RobTrak
Production Capacity...High Streamer capacity upto 5X 480 channels
Streamer Length up to 6000 metres
    Multiple sources Sleeve Guns
High outer streamer seperation up to 450 metres
optiimal use of weatherwindows ... Automated spooling gear

It goes on and this is just the Seismic side of it , today the more modern tonnage will be far in advance of this. This is only a very small part of offshore work which one has to keep abreast of. A ship is a ship is still very true but everyone today has their own version. So someone who says they know it all must indeed be a maestro. JS...

    A bit more then.....
    ONBOARD 2D & 3 D Seismic Processing..
3 D Processing Running on Intel 860 parallel computer systems . Full suite 3D processing, software from PGS Tensor, delivering full offset 3D stack onboard.
2 D Processing ...Running on PROMAX Systems with IBM RS 6000/370 hardware platform . QC and/or full 2D production processing . Automatic data capture from Syntrak VME-memory to PROMAX.
    -Near grace cube
    -RMS calculations
    - Other seismic attributes.
FAST DATA AVAILABILITY ... Transmission by high speed, Marisat data link.

Luckily I have this all written down , but how I remembered to mention it to prospective clients who wanted to see the ship , I can’t remember. Maybe it was better to just give them a beer instead. JS

Or you could use the new technology which includes reality stuff with a pair of fancy glasses.
