Re: Rosewood WW11 medal query
Does anyone know which medals were struck and for what campaigns that merchant seafarers were able to apply for since 1946. E.G The Suez Canal campaign ribbon was available for m.n. Personel. What about other war zones.
When the M.N.Association was advertising m.n. Lapel badges a few years ago, I applied as advertised , owt for nowt as I saw it. The badge came back within days to Australia ( pity it wasn’t so good today) but from the MOD was the red ensign with a small white ensign embossed on the fly, with the words Veteran of H.M. Armed Forces. Obviously with ref. To service on a naval auxillary. There must be wheels within wheels that the average person doesn’t realize. It would be interesting to know the official list of war zones and medals out since 1946. Cheers JS
PS The mn lapel badge also came with a brief authentication from the MOD. JS.

Re: Rosewood WW11 medal query
#21 I think John I Jacobs must have nearly always had a Rosewood of some description or another as long as they had ships. The Rosewood I was on about 1973 was a geared Bulk Carrier. There was one attempted murder on this vessel already described in another post whilst I was there . And another murder and two attempted murders at the same time by another poster not too long after which I was not there at. After these two posts an ex police officer off this site got in touch with me and explained another murder on the Rosewood which was a tanker at another point in time and was looking for clarification . He sent me an interview with the master who I recognised straight away. However that Rosewood the tanker was probably 2 tankers after the one sank during the war. I dont think the Rosewood was a very lucky name for JIJ. I was one of the last to see her as such as was on her when she was sold to the Greeks about 1974 in Genoa. JS

Re: Rosewood WW11 medal query
#26 way before my time there Bob . I was on two of their clean products carriers the Hollywood and the Laurelwood, to get in Tanker time for the new building they had of one of the super duper giants that were the taste of the month at the time , it lay up one of the Norwegian fjords for its lifetime with JIJ , the cream went off the boil at the time world wide and my steps to stardom were removed. Think it must of been even the one after you were on that the policeman was referring to, a Captain Ireland was in command at the time of the problem that they had at that time. Ireland was comparatively young for his era as well. If he was older than me it was only by a few years. cheers JS.

As usual, I stand to be corrected.

Re: Rosewood WW11 medal query
I would imagine there are a lot the MN is excempt from Ivan .I remember going up the Persian gulf during the Iraq / Iran war where one was likely to get a heat seeking missile down the funnel. Never heard nothing about medals or an increase in wages for a war zone. Today’s mentality is different I suppose. I would like back payment on any war bonus going. Thank you. Plus the interest of what would of been on the same. Cheers JS
