This is a start, he was Saloon Boy on the Ship when he started later i guess up to other .
Cannot make out the first Number on his Discharge ?

    Cheers

Seems on deep searching that was his first and only Ship Off Number 162489 Winchester Castle. So he must have worked on her for a while.
    Cheers

Looks like an R followed by 5 digits, which would be about right for the time, my fathers number was R96096 issued 1927: this equates to about 2800 seafarers joining the MN between 1927 and 1933 (approx 670+/- per annum) and we had circa 195,000/200,000 registered MN at that period

Thanks Ivan i should have known, its the Ginger Beer ! LOL

So with the Number now known his CRS10 Should be within this Series, which will give you all his Service Records even though there is only one Ship, it will have more info which may be interesting
The Crew list from Canada will also be interesting, as i applied for my Crew Lists and found a lot of very interesting stuff therin.

All catering crew with UCL would be wearing some form of uniform.
Wingers could often be seen on deck just prior to service, having a quick smoke maybe, but as Doc says could well be a deck steward.

Good Luck with your search Ryan!

It never ceases to amaze me how much time and effort the members of this website are prepared to devote to searches like this - and the speed with which the information is found! I am sure there will be more to come!

Let us know how things go in the future!
