Great news, this historic and famed Clyde Pleasure Steamer will be sailing doon the watter again it is hoped, sometime in 2024.

Good news Fouro, what with the ley and the Q. M. sailing the Clyde is going to be be busy, good news.
Hopefully the Maid of the Loch is not to far behind in her restoration completion.

Something worth remembering is, when Job Number '534' was nearing completion in John Brown's shipyard, the Cunard company approached the owners of the Queen Mary steamer to ask if '534' could become the new Queen Mary. An agreement was reached and '534' became the famous Queen Mary as we all know her. The Clyde steamer was then renamed Queen Mary II.
Years ago mother took us on holiday to Rothesay in 1948, 1949 and 1950. She always made sure we boarded the Queen Mary II at the Broomielaw in Glasgow.
When the Cunarder became a floating hotel the Clyde steamer was given her original name back.

Although they were built in different Clydeside shipyards both ships shared the same name. The TS Queen Mary was the grandest pleasure steamer sailing on the Clyde and the RMS Queen Mary was the grandest passenger liner sailing across the North Atlantic.
It is also a coincidence both vessels experienced similar changes, e.g The pleasure steamer was was berthed in the river Thames for some time, being used as a floating night club and the larger ship was used as a floating hotel and museum in America. The only difference now being the the TS Queen Mary is being restored to her former glory and will be sailing doon the watter of the river Clyde sometime in 2024.

Waverley is only kept going by donations from various heritage bodies and probably could not survive on ticket sales alone. If the QMII goes into service, is there enough demand for both vessels to trade successfully? I hae ma doots!

Also, QMII's turbines and boiler have long gone to scrap and the cost of replica steam plant would be astronomical. Does she even have her screws and shafts still in place? The only way she is going to get underway again is with a couple of medium speed diesels which rather takes away from the attraction. It's a nice idea but has it really been thought through?

The Sir Walter Scott on Loch Katrine has been out of service for a long time because of boiler problems and is unlikely to steam before June. Heritage steam is an expensive business.

WE had a Queen on the Rhodesia castle who went by the name of Mary.
But there were many others who used the same name, so nothing original there.

Was that Mary who had a little lamb ? She also had a bear, Ive often seen her little lamb ,but I’ve never seen her bare . JS
