funny goings on
on a tanker i was on .....as on most vessels there was a glass water bottle stowed in a wood container on the bulkhead ......a AB was the ist to find someone had got the bottle out of the container and whacked him over the head while he was asleep ....by the time he recovered his senses theintruder had vanished ......we thought oh well he has had a bad going on with some nutter who has got him in his bunk asleep ........we sniggered and made a joke of it ....some week or so later the cook got the same treatment ..... it was not funny anymore .......some folk put there water bottle in there locker .....some didnt .....another week or so and another whack at night on a fireman......it went round that a third engineer was doing it ......but up top just closed ranks ....although they seemed to know something we didnt ....any way it stopped .....like the marie celeste we never really new for sure....who or what for

Have heard of headbangers, but not the physical type with the ships best crystal ware , the phantom headbanger sounds very much like the other Phantom G...... He was really never named and shamed, although there was more than one it was oft mentioned. JS

On most UCL there were phantoms who came in the night and blew.
