Default Manxman IOM steam Pkt Co.

A new ferry for the Isle of Man steam packet company was floated out yesterday on time I don't know if it is on budget?
the attached link may be of interest.

From keel laying to floating out in just over four months

I hope the link opens as it really is interesting.

One of her namesake predecessors, the Cammell Laird built TS MANXMAN of 1955 didn't do too badly either, being ready in just over 3 months-from 8/2/55 to 21/5/55.

    Photo attributed to Wolfgang Fricke,Wikipedia

She went on to do 28 years in service , till 1983 ,before being hulked as an intended restaurant ship, but lay derelict for many years with prospect of preservation but was ultimately scrapped at Pallion Dock ,Sunderland in 2012.

Hope the build quality of the new MANXMAN is better than on my neighbour's Korean built Hyundai Tucson !......

Two delayed CalMac ferries are "significantly less than half built", it has been revealed. The vessels being built at Ferguson shipyard are £100m over budget and likely to be three years overdue. _110607562_glensannox.jpg I read they are now £150 million over budget.

#3 TSS Manxman was laid down Laid down 1954
    Launched 1955
    Maiden voyage 21 May 1955
    In service 1955

Its easy to blame the Ferguson Shipyard workers and management for the delay. I have been following this story as it unfolds for years now.
McColl a successful Scottish businessman was given the nod by Salmond to bid for the yard when it went into administration.
He saved the yard spent over £25m on modernisation plans. His only failing if any was modernising the yard during construction of the new ferries.
He claims CMEL the owners and Calmac could not agree on design changes and there were many changes according to the yard.
McColl due to losing money placed the yard in administration the SNP nationalised the yard, and appointed a turn around Director at daily fee of £2.7k. He promptly sacked all tiers of management.
Meanwhile all three Government bodies have lost, misplaced or hidden vital emails (seems to be an SNP trait) which could support McColl in his fight to clear his name.
Meanwhile the SNP have not put the necessary infrastructure in place to refuel the ships at the various ports.
    Vic

PS this s not the only SNP failure there are many, but its every ones fault but the SNP
And as Colin states Scots want self government.

#5 Manxman, the info I have is, ordered 1953, laid down 1954, launched 1955 and entered service 21/5/1955. I suppose it is all down to what website one gets there info from. This guy McColl certainly did not work in the engine shop between 1966 to 1971 while I was there serving my time in Lairds.
#7 All I mentioned was the Cal Mac ferries being built at Fergusons are over budget and well behind schedule.

Now the First minister of Scotland is being dragged into it,

Really, why is it that a thread about A SHIP is turning into a political bun fight?

Its not a Political bunfight, I tried to show reasons why the Ferries build is delayed, by showing a brief history.
Sorry, James itst your interpretation of what I have posted.#
The Ferries has been a political disaster-FACT.
    Vic

PS Marian you should know by now how I feel about the SNP.

It would appear so Vic. That is what happens when the politicians get involved. One would assume the contract was awarded with the best of intentions but not enough research done about the ability of the yard to deliver the vessels on time. I have not read all the details about the Cal Mac deal. Read something about the yard was not setup to construct both vessels at the same time. It would be great to see ship building in the Uk get back to being competitive again but sadly we will not see it in our life time.
