Re: Piracy
Apologies kong for my lack of seaman ship (#19) most of my seagoing life was spent below decks. I've been trawling through some of the posts on this thread with tales of adventures and experiences by members, most, as pointed out, would seem mere fantasy to any landsmen.i'v penned one or two myself and can scarcely believe what's been written! But what we did and where we travelled were never romantic fantasy but experiencing a sailors life. It calls to mind the last few lines of a poem I recently posted
' Say it! Tell it! Let it live!
Tell the tales that ought be told
Before they fade as we grow old.

Re: Piracy
Books at sea were always popular with many doing the rounds over the voyage.
One such book comes to mind, 'The Rights of Spring'.
Went around like a windmill, but one problem.
So many of the page stuck together it was hard to find the story.
Something about a young man and his first ventures into the ladies realms.
Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Piracy
#19 John for those reading this , some will think Brian is a super weight lifter. For those who dont know a 10 ton shackle is 10 t S.W.L. For those with every finger a marline spike they would wear one on each finger for decoration or a knuckle duster/ JS

Re: Piracy
#26. Thanks for that further lesson in seaman ship. Having met Kong once or twice I was aware of his stature, although I failed to notice his hands decorated with iron wear or a marlin spike tucked under his belt, but kept my distance anyway.

Re: Piracy
Talking about books. I think it was a Palm boat where one of the lads brought a book with him about a mass murderer in the States named Albert Fish. This was a good read and it passed from one cabin to the next. Someone began to sign for his bond issue as Albert Fish. At the end of the trip Albert had the biggest bond bill on deck.

Re: Piracy
Hi John
I still lift my weights every day, and my exercise bike gets a good work out,
I am only 85 and a half and I feel good after a couple of hours working out.
I can still crush a grape with one hand.
Cheers

Re: Piracy
Age, all in the mind and the wine of course.
Many aged in good wooden casks are the best.

Re: Piracy
Brian after reading of your many adventures over the years I have often wondered did you ever join a ship in port A, sail to ports B,C and D then return to port A without nothing very much happening?
