Walter Runciman I used to be well up on them, as served over 11 years with same. I went back years later due to circumstances job wise but only did one trip. My face did not fit as was a time of scarcity of work. And the company men there thought I was jumping the queue. I was not unbeknown to them it was Runcimans who recruited me about 10 minutes before Chapman’s did. I would have been better off with Chapman’s . I am grateful to Runcimans for the privilege of sailing and learning from some great old seafarers of yesteryear. Shipowners themselves I have reservations about as you are only as good as your last job, and if you get in the wrong office clique there are two options either success or failure. Sea staff if handled at shipboard level are different and are more honest , if a bit harder to control .I can only say sorry to hear of death as in Orbituary , but hey we are all heading that way .
