Hi Louis
I may yet again sit and write that Story and as said be damned! LOL
I have a few that may shake the Bones a bit but its all in the past and i had paid for what i did, and of course was very sorry as well. But being young and full of Mischief as i then called it, i think it is now Just a Story of misspent Youth!
Cheers
As said will think on it!
Doc he must have lead sheltered life, to insult a shipmate like that. We have all had our moments. Rgds Den
One of the reasons that Vietnam Rose was so hard to get rid of was down to US policy, any American soldier who caught it had it stamped on his discharge papers, you can imagine the horror of the wife or girl friend finding out, so they never reported it and it went into orbit.

As to the lady and the Parrot.
The story sounds like any other end of voyage one.
All had a great time on the way home, all arrived safely, though at times a little over refreshed but in a very happy mood as was obviously the lady.
Reminds me of the Sinatra song,
" That's why the the lady is a tramp"
I did a couple trips down the West Coast, MV Filleigh on charter to ED's, found going up the creeks to Sapele and Warri an interesting experience, pilots name was Wilson, quite a character.
Did my first solo trip as R/Off on Daru 1971. First time West Africa. 3rd mate was Alan Provan who decided he was going to be my West Coast pilot, and we were going ashore every port. We did - all the way from Bathurst to Doula including the creeks. Some were better than others......I think there may have been alcohol involved.
Instead of going back to Europe we picked up an unusual one off to Canada/ Great Lakes where unsuccessful efforts were made to 'Drink Canada Dry'.
Back to WA thence Europe.
Shows how a projected 6/7 week trip can turn into 7 months quite easily.
Must have had a good time. I think I paid off with about £50.
Thanks for the post it brings back a lot memories I wish I could do it all over.
To be honest, I really like the IDEA of doing it all over again, but as far as actually doing it.........
Yes Dave, just imagine bending down feeding a backspring wire round the bitts when the vessel surged ahead or astern, would we be able to stand up straight again, or climbing the mast ladder and reaching out whilst leaning backwards to get on the mast table which were not designed for easy access. But we have our memories and dreams to keep us going. We didn't need a gym.
