Re: MN Graves inTimbuctoo.
the reparations by the french were kept by the labour government and never distributed to captain dobeson or other members what an absolute disgrace....how was this allowed to happen .....where were the protectors of these seamen ....as stated i sailed with captain dobeson in 61 when he was chief officer.....he was a ist class seaman but sadly ...and im not suprised .....was taken with alcohol .....i hope he found some peace ..in his later life ....i surely did not know of his past in captivity at that time ...which would surely have changed my views ....a much chastened cappy

Re: MN Graves inTimbuctoo.
I campaigned for years over this.
The Labour Government confiscating the Money paid to them for the widows, survivors and children of the Seamen who were PoW of the French.
I wrote to several Labour MPs but NOT ONE ANSWERED
including , Miliband, Corbin, and many others Not one answered.
each one received eight emails.
How low can they get??

Re: MN Graves inTimbuctoo.
Thanks for that post Fouro, what a disgrace for the labour party, and a shock to read that account, perhaps it would be better sent to someone in the conservative party, they could possibly get some info on it. As Brian says, no one in the Labour party will acknowledge it, kt

#4, when this was raised a few years ago, I wrote to our local Conservative MP, she promised action, no response.

Well, if it is possible for certain people in this country to hark back hundreds of years to find reasons to whinge about, carry out insane attacks on historical events and have those hypocrites stand up in the house and support them (in most cases), then I see no reason why we should not pressure them on something still in living memory.

Re: MN Graves inTimbuctoo.
Some info about the two lone souls buried in Timbuctoo. What a horrible miserable place
to end up in.
Chief Engineer William Soutter came from Aberdeen and AB John Turnbull Graham came from North Shields.
