The Armed Forces Covenant was the method of thanking members of the Armed Forces community and was supported by the Church of England and most local authorities and the NHS. It was set up when the casualty rate in Iraq and Afghanistan was growing and made lots of promises such as priority for ex service members with housing etc. The many local authorities signed the covenant with a splash of publicity and then did nothing. May I remind members that if any Merchant Seaman who served during conflicts WW2 or the Falklands can obtain assistance from The Royal British Legion should they be in difficulties.
