Re: The Pulse
I used the MNA site you give Doc as I hadn't heard of it before. The Pulse certainly contains informative reading. One of last month's items showed my naivety as I had been previously unaware of owners, perhaps solely Liberian, having crew sign two contracts with differing pay rates. One to show on any official request and the other, that with the lower rate, to use for actual payment. Surely the Master/s would have been complicit so I wonder at which company level the crooked scheme would begin. Wonder also if this happened/happens on British ships though hopefully not.

"According to the AMSA, the crew were found to have duplicate seafarer
employment agreements that included wage differences of about 25%. The seafarers were being paid
based on the agreement for the lower amount. AMSA also discovered that the quantity and quality of
food provided was well below the standards required by the Maritime Labour Convention. The galley and
fridges were filthy, and the ship had very poor hygiene practices overall, according to the AMSA."

Re: The Pulse
I doubt the MSA or Pulse will survive without contributions. A worthwhile group.

Re: The Pulse
AMSA is a very similar association Vernon and stands for Allied Merchant Seamen’s Associaton , and one of their stated aims is to seek equal rights as given to the armed forces during the last war.. it would fill up a page of foolscap the aims in its manifesto. JS
