Re: Cruise companies
We're doomed Mr Mann'ering, doomed I say!
Lets keep a sense of perspective, life may never be the same again, I like others miss my dancing and foreign ventures, but I look to the future with hope and optism, rather than gloom, we'll learn to adapt, we have through the ages. In previous plagues and pandemics the human race has survived, and we have better means and resources to combat pandemics than our forbears did, and if we follow the rules we can survive, although there will be those that follow the rules, but succumb through no fault of their own, alas that is life, we walk on a tightrope from the minute we are born, but we get used to it. 47, 000 deaths out of 60 million is tragic, but nothing like the 1917 pandemic of 2.5 million out of less than 40 million. Think positive and keep away from the blame game and hindsight solutions

Re: Cruise companies
Ivan you are so right there mate.
Daily here we get the death numbers, mainly persons in Nursing Homes.
What they fail to tell us is that on any average day here in Oz some 440 will die which includes anywhere from 120 to 150 from nursing homes.
The average life expectancy in a nursing home is 6 months.
About 53 million die each year on this planet.
Global death toll so far is a tad under 700,000 from a global population of close to 7.8 billion.
Numbers with it are around 16 million, some 55 million from a global population of 2.2 billion died from Spanish Flu in 1919.
Put it into perspective if you want the people to understand.
Happy daze John in Oz.

No mention that there are in excess of 12,000 liner screw members have exceeded their contracts and cannot fly home because some airports will not let them even when charter flights are arranged. And then we have the residents on shore who are worried that these vessels are ruining the environment, so many small minded and ignorant people.

Re: Cruise companies
Most of the crew have been returned home with Princess and Royal Caribbean from what I have been told.
There are some still to complete their 9 month contract and are being used for a variety of duties to keep the ships in good condition.
Some have been unable to send crew home as countries will not take them in just now.
But no doubt some are being kept well past their date just to keep the ships alive.

Re: Cruise companies
As I see it, there is no good closing one's eyes to the serious situation cruise companies are experiencing during this horrid Coronavirus Pandemic. Sad articles or not, the future outlook for cruise companies is going to become saddest.

The word saddest in the post above

Re: Cruise companies
Yes, a couple of smaller ones have already gone under.
Today I saw that MSC owned by a couple of billionaires is back sailing again with two ships.
Some will survive, those with sufficient backing and capital, others, who knows.
