    Default Stellar Banner VLOC Sinking

I find this very sad - she was only 4 years old - ran aground in Brazil was partially discharged but deemed a CTL so towed out to deep water and scuttled.

Always a sad moment when a ship sinks, whether in war or peace.

A great loss, my Spanish is not that good so could only make out part of the story.
I assume all the crew were taken off first??

Yes John all the crew were taken off when she grounded. She left the Port of Maranhão, Brazil and somehow damaged her bow during her passage outbound from the port. To avoid her sinking her Captain ran her aground. All her crew were taken off. She had part of her cargo and all her bunker fuel discharged into lighters and refloated, however she was considered to be a CTL and the Brazilian Navy authorised her to be scuttled. She was towed to a position 80 miles off the coast and scuttled as seen in the video.

Watching her go with a partial cargo of ore in her and the speed at which she went down, makes you think just how catastophic and quick the end must have been for the Derbyshire. No wonder nobody survived.

Chris, imagine a ship during WW2 in a convoy and hit by a torp.
Going down that fast no one would stand a chance.
