    Default My Favourite Wee Cargo Boat.

    I grew up round these parts shown in the video. In my early teen school days I even went canoeing on the Forth and Clyde canal.

    Hi Fouro, good to see you posting again, did you ever watch the TV comedy series "The Tales of Para Handy" with Gregor Fisher, {Rab Nesbitt}
    it is a smashing BBC series from the 1990s, if I remember rightly it's a Clyde Puffer trading on the Scottish coast and is set in the 1930s.
    It's a good Scottish comedy, if you haven't already seen it it is worth a watch, I have got the DVD's but I'd forgotten about it but now I'll
    be watching it again , cheers

    #5.. Keith I was fortunate enough to spend quite a bit of time off Faslane, Holy Loch and Fort William a beautiful part of the World, and also further north. Does anyone know why the people from the areas further north of the.Clyde estuary , were culled Chufters. ? Scousers and Geordies yes, but chufters have forgotten. JS.

    John,it is pronounced more or less "chookters" not sure of the spelling, but it is the equivalent more less to country bumpkin, carrot cruncher, peasant etc.

    It is a common figure of speech for Scots who live in Scottish towns and cities to describe Scots who live in remote countryside hamlets and villages as " teuchters".
    This has often been said to me when speaking to friends where I was brought up-, John, youv'e done a'richt fur yurself hiven't yi, noo thit your living in London.

    #9 Fouro think have put up before my maternal background was Glasgow , my first impression of Scotland was being banged on the head by urchins bearing wooden swords , I was the dirty redcoat, very unfair. I suppose you know how Geordies got their names , was because when the English troops when approaching the border they used to shout are you for George or Charles, they were crafty and knew if gave the wrong answer they would receive a bayonet up the rear end , hence the name Geordie was born. The Scouser equivilant was derived from some obscure food they used to eat.
    There is enough slander here now to cause a mini race war of our own . Which establishments do you recommend for looting. Cheers thanks the info. JS
