Re: The Stateships Story
John that is my kind reading, the trouble is there's no one interested these days it's all I.T. I still like to hold a book and turn the pages.
I have a fair collection mainly second hand but that's what makes them for me as some of the previous owners have inserted newspaper
cuttings adding interest to the passage being read. I tend to do the same if something catches my attention.

Re: The Stateships Story
The Missions to Seamen sent me a box of books at turn around in Britain and they were popular and very welcome.
The Dorrigo was smaller version of the AUSN Coramba that I did a trip, Sydney/Fremantle/Sydney on in1948 and was chartered to the WA state service.
Here is the menu from the Koolinda with signatures of my shipmates.

Thanks for the offer John, but I fear that they would along with my collection end up in the skip also though they are priceless to me but no one else it seems.

Re: The Stateships Story
Bill, that is something I often think of.
I have written up stories of my life from day one until I swallowed the anchor.
But after I venture to 'Fiddlers Green' who will be interested and how long before the memory of the BMN vanishes for ever.
Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: The Stateships Story
John S. As stated (no pun) I.T. is replacing the written word in book form. I spent this very rainy afternoon on the internet looking at what was available on the Stateships of Western Australia. The book I have Passenger Ships of Australia And New Zealand Vol.1 1876-1912 there is no mention of the Stateships which is why I went on to the internet to find they only came into existence between 1914-1919. The State Library of Western Australia rather vague but The J.S. Battye Library upper floor Alexander Building would appear to hold the records of the Stateships (part of the State Library) but their funding has been reduced of late. Now enter The Friends of Battye Library who help raise funds to aid the running of it and purchase of items of interest. If you still have the inclination " The Friends" may be the last resort.

Re: The Stateships Story
The first recorded ship operated by WA Gov was the s.s."UNA" built 1890, LOA 33.86m G.R.T. 178 D.W.T.164 Purchased11 May 1912 from R.G.Lynn Ltd. Fremantle Sold 11 July 1917 to Irwin & Johnson Ltd Cape Town SA
Interesting picture I have of her shows the E.R and funnel forward of the bridge, and an awning on fore deck
(Would have included pic if I knew how, if some one tells me how will upload pics of all WA gov operstad ships and details up to mv "IRENE GREENWOOD"))
