I haven't lived in Shields since I left the sea in 67. From there to M'bro, Settle, near York, , Doha, Dubai and WA.
I really have not got the hang of this page so be patient!

Thanks! I remember seeing pictures of the Lincoln after it had been holed. Not sure if dad was on leave or not but it certainly was some sight. I wonder where the pictures are now. I’ve got pictures too if mum & dad in Antwerp around that time. D

After further investigation I believe my dad sailed with Silverline not Silver Marine which I think are different outfits. (I may be mistaken)

#26 Des the first ship I had in Oz shortly after arrival was the Pacific Dart one of Swires. Modern communication I.e. the VHF , never hardly heard an Australian voice , just like being In the UK. Just a few of the ships to follow was the Smitt Lloyd 107 and 105, Pacific Marlin, Miclyn Pride, Dickerson Tide and many more . All had their fair share of ex British seafarers , from all parts of Australia and originally the UK. Also quite a few from the Perth area. Cheers JS..

Hi David - did you find what you were researching? I have looked further at my crew printouts, and, yes, your dad was on leave at the time I joined the Lincoln and he did rejoin in Naples on April 12th., together with the previous Master Brindley Bater, forever known, unfortunately, as Master Bater.
I think I have recovered his face from my memory - going bald, round faced, moustache?, always singing naughty ditties! I wouldn't mind seeing a photo just to confirm my recollection, but not sure how to do it through this site and maintain privacy? Not sure if I met your Mum. Might recognise a photo.
What exactly are you you researching with regard to the Merchant Navy? Silver Line had half a dozen cargo ships plus 2 tankers and they were all motor ships so quite a change from Esso. (I have the original set of "Observer's Book of Ships" for that era) Did he leave Esso because everything was getting scrapped?

Hi John, sorry for tardy response. Technically, I now live North of the Swan, but in the Wheatbelt. Previously in Harvey, Bunbury, Perth etc.
