I didn't know there was a merchant navy reserve, I know there is in the armed forces. (navy, army and airforce) I not sure there is in the RFA either. Stand to be corrected.

    Hi Ian.
When I was on the R.F.A.Wave Baron all the officers were R.N.V.R, but the crew were all MN.

#3 Des, I was MN but also a member of RNVR. Master plus 4 others in RNVR vessel was allowed to fly Blue Ensign (1950's), rules may have changed since my day.

What is the actual different conditions and duties expected between RNR and RNVR.? It may clear up some discrepancy’s some of us entertain about such . The RNR apart from rest and recuperation , was for ex serving members of the RN and think it was part of agreement that they stayed on the active list in case needed and did so many day’s training days per year. RNVR was brought out during the war for recruitment purposes for people with ship experience of various types. My 4 years working for the MOD at times was mainly apart from regular navy working with RNR. Doing their annual exercises . No one on board as regards MN held any type of commission, I can’t remember signing the OS acts , was told many times certain work came under the act but never signed to the best of my knowledge. Cheers JS.......we flew the blue Ensign and is one of the reasons why would like to remember what was the crest on such. It was not the RMAS. The RNVR was always known as the Wavy Navy due to their braid being staggered like an Electricians or R/Os. JS
