Jesus Vic, if her engines couldn't go astern for whatever reason, why the hell didn't she go hard A starboard and out away from the wharf, it looks as if she never went astern until after she hit the crane. DR's all around I think.

There are a number of similar clips on that site.
Makes one wonder, should they go to Specsavers, take another driving test, or are they female drivers or pilots who have been on the sauce?
Hard to imagine that with all the modern technology events such as this still occur.

Re: Bang goes the no claims bonus
It looks to me as if she was going a stern but leaving a trail of froth in the water as the ship is still moving ahead under momentum. She seems to be very light in the water and the prop not fully submerged hence the lack of 'braking'.
Maybe she made her initial approach to the berth at too higher speed ?
Of course I stand to be corrected

She had a tug on the stern, but there seems to be too much way on for the tug to influence the drift in on the stern, of course we cannot judge the influence of any wind from that clip, kt

When going astern the prop pulls the after end to port into the cranes.
he came in too fast. so the prop had a bigger effect in going to port.

Still has starboard helm on to swing the Stef in after clearing ship astern, which it hit. That guy looks pretty powerful but still unable to stop or slow the swing. Apart from demolishing one crane it damaged two more.

Had she gone hard a starboard at that speed her stern would have swung to port and have taken out more cranes and the vessel in front, just putting enough helm on to clear the other vessel in front of her seemed to be the correct thing to do. It was probably an engine control misfunction or someone fell on the joystick if she was on bridge control.
Whoops, sorry about the quote Chris, don't know how to take it off

High a speed not higher speed.
