Wreck of the sv"ORIENT"
I hope that my fellow members may be able to help.
My Great grandfather. a Thomas Clark was chief officer of HM Coast Guards and we have a letter from the Imperial Russian Consulate in Liverpool to the Marine Department of the BoT thanking my GG for his assistance in rescuing the crew of the sv "ORIENT" which was wrecked off the Irish coat at Ballydavid Head, Dingle Bay on the 9th September 1908.
Have not been able to get any record of the incident and wonder if one of our resident historians can give me any leads. Any help wood be appreciated.

Re: Wreck of the sv"ORIENT"
Much of what the site researchers do is to try and assist,
in this we hope to work with the enquirer rather than do
all for them. Generally, the more interaction the better
the result.
Response and feedback help much.
Meanwhile, it may be worth contacting also the Russian
Embassy, present day they may not hold to much info,
the contact may though allow them to suggest someone
that can assist. Worth a try.

Re: Wreck of the sv"ORIENT"
Thanks Keith, you have been very helpful.
We know that Thomas Clark was born on Glasgow and had a daughter when he was a Coastguard at Fraserburgh. We then a have census from 1901 where he was the Chef Officer of the Coastguard in Cork.
My searches so far as to the Coastguard in Ballydavid have only brought up a B & B at the Coastguards cottages in Ballydavid which also has a resturant and hotel. So when it is safe to travel I will go to UK and with my sisters go to Ballydavid for a few days exploring and drinking Guinness. Know there are some good cattle there so could even enjoy a beef and Guinness pie.
