Years back i had to apply to Cardiff for my lost Records which i received from them ,the Board Of Trade cannot recall the actual name of the Street but was something like LLand---- Road Cardiff (Keith @ T any idea) . At that time they held all Records there not now though.
Cheers
Clip Crew Lists are also very helpful online but for certain Years as well only.

Re: Old Board of Trade Offices
Opened in 1889; built to designs of Bruton and Williams, architects of Cardiff, for Cory Brothers Ltd. Adjoins Customs and Immigration building to left and the former Board of Trade building on Bute Place to right.

Possibly to early for what you seek ?

Re: Old Board of Trade Offices
That is the old Place Keith but it was not Bute Street and the Pic is not too early its too late!
Board of Trade was there long ago, and as said the name of the Street started with LLa ------- Road or Street ? Cardiff.
Thanks for Link anyway
Cheers
Still no closer LOL
Anyone else perhaps know the name of the Street or Road where the old BOT was ???/
The Mercantile Marine Act of 1850 (13 & 14 Vic c 93) transferred all functions relating to seamen and apprentices who were not in the Royal Navy, including the General Register and Record Office of Seamen, which registered merchant seamen by means of a register ticket system, from the Admiralty to the Board of Trade, which thereby inherited the office of Registrar General of Seamen.
The same act established local Shipping Offices, later called Mercantile Marine Offices, where all crews of foreign-going vessels were to be engaged and discharged under formal articles of agreement, a measure that was intended to combat exploitation, and provided for the issue of certificates of competency to masters and mates.

Re: Old Board of Trade Offices
It was at that time just known as The Board of Trade Keith,i am sure many on here would have known the place and had possible Copies of their Trips made if lost. I know it changed its name to something else as well before becoming the Mercantile Marine Offices. Dont know exactly the Years but was still called the BOT in the 1950,s
Cheers

Re: Old Board of Trade Offices
Well after much searching through all my Papers in the Sheds (I have so many) i found what i was looking for, some task i can tell you.
The address that is shown on my Discharge papers is
Board Of Trade (B.O.T.)
Llantrisant Road
Llandaff
Cardiff
It is dated27th June 1967 so a few Years after i had left,i had applied for copies of my lost Discharge Book. Fee was Eighteen Shillings and Six Pence. LOL
Cheers
Whew! Now i must put these papers in a place i can find them easily again.
I recall now that i have looked at my Discharge papers that they were also at one stage called Department of Transport ( D.O.T. ),which at some time had the same address, recall seeing this on a Header of Copy of Service Certificate like mine of an old Friend of mine Years back now!

Re: Shipping Registries and old Crew Agreements
Inside the front cover of my Dis A, it makes reference to "The Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen, Llantriissant Road, Cardiff" - any use, or is this too elementary??
