Re: The Welland canal
In 1958, I was on the Mv Dundee, a small ship especially built in Burntisland for the Great Lakes, this was before the “Seaway” was built, and we traversed the Welland Canal often. We would often jump off the ship as we were going through the Canal there were a series of tunnels built in each lock. We would head up to the snack shops on top of the locks , to purchase hot buttered corn on the con, we did this often boarding the ship as she reached the top of the lock, one time we were about to jump into a tunnel, when a bloody big snake slithered out, needless to say we never went through them again. Love that 10 months of my life just aged 18.
