    Default First all female crew

Celebrity cruises announce their first ever all female bridge team.
Should be interesting conversation on the bridge such as, does my bum look big in this uniform, or,you don't suit your hair like that, along with all those other catty remarks that women make about each other when in groups. LOL.

I wonder how good they are at "parking", I am not sexist but spend a lot of time "observing" and make my own conclusions.

    Hi John.
I know one thing there would have been a bloody long line of seamen outside the pool office in my day. Just imagine being on the wheel and saying. " Mrs Mate the spokes on this wheel are very hard to handle." and, "Yes Mrs Mate HARD a port".
But seriously I think it's great that women have achieved so much in what is realy a short space of time since the second World War.

A few Brits amongst the list, most in passenger relations etc. But one first officer is British.

First All Female Bridge Team and First All Female Crew on one of those ships has a discrepancy of about 1500 individuals, Slight misnomer for the thread.

That was my error, I had typed in the posts heading , written the post and inserted the link and posted the thread and only then realised that the posts heading should have been "all female Bridge crew".

Not at all important in the greater scheme of things, simply a casual observation. Last year on a cruise of the northern Caribbean, we were followed or we followed the "Celebrity Equinox". She was berthed several times right outside my balcony. She had a female master, the first to be appointed by Celebrity a few years ago. As a career long pilot, I "eyed" everything she did from a fairly short distance (jetty width) and I have to say, despite knowing full well the range of helpful equipment available at her fingertips, she made an absolutely splendid and seemingly effortless job every time. The "bridge team" on a large modern cruise ship is one of the smallest sections on board and it surpriises me not at all to find an ever increasing number of females up there. I wish them well. I note from press cuttings that, not unlike the airline industry, marriage and motherhood tend to deplete their ranks.

Does the Captain of that vessel sign on as MASTER or MISTRESS.

Does she have a Masters Certificate or a Mistress Certificate.?

In these days of political correctness and Gender how do they get around that.

Some years ago, while on a cruise with Holland America I met the female Third Mate (or should that be Third Mistress/Officer). She was obviously intelligent but when I told her that I had been Third Officer “Queen Elizabeth” when I was about her age, she looked quite baffled and our conversation quickly petered out.
It seems to me that modern youngsters don’t have much regard for recent history, and I don’t suppose we can blame them for that. As for my opinion as to whether or not she was a capable navigator I came to the conclusion that she could probably run a ship aground just as easily as I could have done at that age.
