Fake certificates
Despite the supposed tightening of certificate issued, it seems you can still fairly easily obtain a fake certificate.

Re: Fake certificates
Nothing seems to surprise me anymore in today's maritime industry. I wonder what the wages and nationality of the people were. On a different track when a ship is 27 + years old the owner maybe does not care who they employ as if something should happen to the vessel it is probably worth more as a constructive total loss than scrap. While I am not suggesting that any thing is amiss with this company as the saying goes 'Worst things happen at sea'

Re: Fake certificates
In 1990 I signed on an AB, Eddie, I looked in his Discharge Book, and he had several MASTER discharges,
I asked him How!. ?
He told me he went to the Panamanian Embassy in London, and paid £50 for a Masters Certificate. and then he sailed on a ? flagged vessels running up the Mekong and around that area.
He went to his cabin and got the Certificate and showed me, It was a work of art,
So getting a fake is obviously quite easy.
