Default Red Funnel skipper in court

Very difficult to draw a clear picture from this report, but from what is written in this article it seems the motor vessel did not see the ferry until it collided. As someone who has been in small boats for many years in the Solent, i know that i always kept a good eye, both in front , behind and sideways, Entering Cowes harbour is a dangerous place, so while it seems the Skipper took the blame, why did the motor boat not take action to stay well clear, its easy to enter the harbour for a small vessel, by threading your way through the moorings, if he hits you there, its definitely his fault !!, but seems to be 6 of one and half dozen of the other

just my take on it, kt

It was very easy for the prosecuting Counsel to suggest that if Red Funnel didn’t supply and extra lookout that he asked for then he shouldn’t have sailed. I was an Engineer and was lucky enough to work for an outfit that didn’t make too much fuss if I advised the Old Man that we shouldn’t sail due to a technical problem. In fact in one case we didn’t sail and it eventually became obvious that I was wrong but I heard nothing about it. However, should it have been a disagreement between me and the company about manning levels I’m damn sure I would have sailed and moaned a lot!

I see the report where the skipper quotes that he's the dogs bol***** out on the Solent, but also as i suspected, the motor yacht was reprimanded for not keeping a lookout, kt

Reported yesterday that the Skipper of the ferry has been cleared by the court, and as he was sacked by Red Funnel ferries he is now going to appeal for reinstatement , kt
