Caruso
I am busy expanding diary entries which I kept as an apprentice with British Tankers during the early '50s ( this was a company requirement of the 4 year apprenticeship ) . Many amusing incidents occurred and I jot one down here.
During lunch time , one day, in the dining saloon the trainee steward on duty in the adjoining pantry broke into song with a Welsh ballad, had a decent voice too. The Old Man said to the saloon steward " Will you tell young Caruso there to put a sock in it". We then heard mutterings emerging from the pantry " Well I never knew that Robinson Crusoe was a singer....never knew that!!"
Pete.
