Re: Sidney Federick Tyrrell Merchant Navy cook 1905 onwards
Hi, so from this does it look like he did serve in WW1? That is interesting if he did as family rumour was that he didn't but, as I've found over the years of my family research, the "family" were not always right...

MERCANTILE MARINE INSIGNIA.jpg
Hello,
Maybe this chart will help with identifying Mercantile Marine insignia - before and during WW1. Could you enlarge it, please, Doc? Thanks

Re: Sidney Federick Tyrrell Merchant Navy cook 1905 onwards
Pondering over: occupation confectioner, would seem tome he would have been sought after by liners etc as a professional rather than just a ships cook. Wondered if the term cook is a general term for all of the galley crew ?

Re: Sidney Federick Tyrrell Merchant Navy cook 1905 onwards
Not to put a damper on this Thread but if you read my post #5 you will see that there will be no record of him,so i feel although we love to assist Keith is there any point in going on ? Just a question that is!
I know that you are possibly looking for Family traces and that is quite OK but as far as Service goes i think there is no avenue that will get his Records!
Cheers

Re: Sidney Federick Tyrrell Merchant Navy cook 1905 onwards
Hi,
I just wondered if there was any record of him being in the Merchant Navy. If there are no records then I would say there is no point going on as I don't want to waste anyone's valuable time. Maybe I might find something when the 1921 census becomes available but that won't be until 2022 I believe. I am the only family member doing research Keith as Dad's family have all passed away. He passed away himself a few weeks ago but knew very little about his family history.

Re: Sidney Federick Tyrrell Merchant Navy cook 1905 onwards
Hello Julie
It is not so much a matter of wasting anyones time,it is just the fact that as stated in my Post ,there will be no records kept of that period.
To keep on looking for Family is fine and I do hope that perhaps you may find more info on him.
As you say perhaps when that Census gets published there may be more then ??
Thanks for the initial question anyway.
Good Luck in your research in the future
