If you get a speeding ticket here in Victoria in a car and no more than ten klm over the limit and have not had one for at least two years you can ask to be forgiven and just receive a warning letter.

In 2012 Anne, her friend Barbara from Stockport and I were driving round W.A. and in between Albany and Esperance in almost desert, no traffic nothing Barbara was driving, the road sign said speed limit 50.
she was doing 55, Suddenly a Police car appears from behind a bush and stops her.
Right you are booked, where is your licence, She shows him,
From Stock port? I am from Stockport, says the cop, They get chatting about the place and he used to live in the next street to her, they knew the same people,, but I said to him, Put the cuffs on her, so he does and I take the photos.
She is now panicking thinking she is going to be taken away,
    [ see photos below,]
Then he lets her go, and said , If I had been an Australian Cop, which I am, you would be booked and that would cost 120 Dollars and two points on your UK Licence.
That kept her quiet for a while.

I always knew WA was a cheap state, here in Victoria that would be $210.
But never knew points on license to be reciprocal with another country, interesting.
