PS Waverley
The organisation that owns the Waverley has raised sufficient funds to place an order with Cochran's of Annan for the new boilers.
When the boilers are replaced they will also fit new generators.
So the old girl will be sailing next year

Re: PS Waverley
I am pleased to hear that full stop thinking about it whatever happened to the very expensive scheme to bring the Falls of Clyde back to the UK

Re: PS Waverley
I am so pleased about the Waverley but when you look at what the Falls of Clyde Trust were proposing there's an awful lot of money involved in that. I think sometimes these project can be too ambitious. There are so many of them that have failed on financial reasons.

Re: PS Waverley
Cannot remember if it was held in Rotterdam or Antwerp but one of those ports used to have an annual parade on historic merchant vessels. We were bound upriver when I heard the unmistakable sound of a steam whistle and shortly after the Shieldhall came into sight steaming along at full speed with smoke coming out of her funnel, the inescapable sound of her compound engine going and gleaming paint and brass work throughout. A lovely sight.

Re: PS Waverley
Had a couple of days at Portsmouth and Southampton last year and went on Shieldhall for the MN day trip down the Solent, they held a service
on deck and laid a wreath, after the service Shieldhall moved into place to view the floating flts as they sailed past to start their cruising, lots
of tooting of horns but the big boys made poor old Shieldhall sound like a penny whistle, cheers

Re: PS Waverley
Just to be clear, the Waverley Trust has accumulated sufficient funds to order the new boilers but they still need considerably more to install and commission them and are seeking donations still.

Waverley steamer repair fund hits £2m milestone
The famous Waverley paddle steamer is on course to sail again after a restoration appeal topped £2m.
The 70-year-old ship has been out of service for the 2019 season as it awaits urgent repairs.
The vessel needed £2.3m to set sail in 2020, the Year of Coasts and Waters, and was given a £1m boost from the Scottish government last month.
Owners of the Waverley said the fundraising milestone was a "fantastic result".
