Re: Well
Not an advert. This was the first Snowbow video I purchased as it's VHS now old hat. It took a while to find it again and watched it this rainy after noon. It's a must for any ex merchant seaman who sailed from any of the London Docks or anybody worked in them.

Re: Well
I signed on three times in Tilbury, never in the Vic or Albert although I was there many times. I counted 29 ships in Mike's photo but no aircraft, says it all for me. There was a smell, a feeling, and a being in that photo of those ships of our time and of course tears.
cheers Des

my sentiments exactly about Pernis refinery in Rotterdam on a cold and wet November day - smell, - bl--dy awful, a feeling - pi--ed off in such dismal location, being - very pi--ed off when told you are here for another two days; ha ha! and the tears - they came naturally due to the awful environment and pollution.

Hi Keith
I think they were the same, "Dock street" & "Poplar" are in the same area of East London

I think watching these videos coupled with our memories is the nearest we will ever come to revisiting our days at sea as everything, the ships,
ports and even the countries themselves have changed beyond recognition. I've got a collection of these DVDs Bill right from the first one that
I bought from Des Cox himself at the Ship Show Westminster in the 90s, as you say they were VHS format but they changed to DVD and are much
better, there is one that features the recreation of the Pilgrim Fathers 1620 voyage to America in a replica of the Mayflower, maybe not what we'd
have seen in the KGV but very interesting and a far cry from today's monsters, cheers

Re: Well
A foot note to this thread. Near the end of the video is a song to the Port of London. I had a search in Youtube and found this under Port London. Says it all.

Re: Well
For 5 minutes there Bill i was back there at sea, and the sight of all those ships, all gone, but we knew the life. The sight of one of those ships with its steady roll of the ocean brought a tear to this 79 year old sea dog, although to some of you at sea much longer than myself, perhaps a 79 year old sea puppy, kt
